Most Expensive Teenage XI Of All Time Featuring Arsenal And Manchester United Wonderkids

The most expensive XI ever aged 19-years-old or younger.

There have already been a number of huge transfer fees paid for teenagers this summer so CaughtOffside has picked out the most expensive teenage XI of all time for your enjoyment.

GK – Thibaut Courtois – Genk to Chelsea, £7.9m

David de Gea would have made this list had he not just turned 20 upon completing his move to Manchester United and it looks to be a fine deal for this young goalkeeper judging by his recent performances on-loan at Atletico Madrid.

RB – Calum Chambers – Southampton to Arsenal, £16m

The most recent deal on this list after Chambers moved from St Mary’s to the Emirates Stadium at the weekend in a transfer that could eventually rise to £16m depending on how the 19-year-old gets on.

CB – Marquinhos – AS Roma to Paris Saint-Germain, £27m

Last summer this Brazilian joined a PSG squad brimming with expensive talent and alongside fellow countrymen Thiago Silva and David Luiz at the back their combined transfer fees are well over £100m.

CB – Sergio Ramos – Sevilla to Real Madrid, £19.7m

Back in 2005 Ramos made what was then a truly shocking move to thje Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, although over the past nine years has won every trophy possible and justified the fee paid.

LB – Luke Shaw – Southampton to Manchester United, £27m

Another transfer from this summer and another departure from the Saints as Shaw became the most expensive teenager in British football history with the fee that United paid for his services.

CM – Anderson – FC Porto to Manchester United, £19m

Something of a flop now as although Anderson is still a Red Devils player he has failed to live up to his fee and is well on the periphery of the first team squad.

CM – John Obi Mikel, Lyn Oslo to Chelsea, £16m

This became such an expensive transfer for the Blues due to a legal battle with United and in the end they had to pay the 13-time Premier League champions £12m and Lyn Oslo £4m.

CM – Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – Southampton to Arsenal, £15m

If Chambers wants to seek inspiration then he need look no further than this England international, who completed the same move as the right-back in 2011 and has been impressive ever since.

RW – Cristiano Ronaldo – Sporting Lisbon to Manchester United, £12.24m

At 18-years-old many thought Sir Alex Ferguson was overpaying for Ronaldo in 2003, but in six years the Portuguese forward became the best player in the world and left for Madrid for £80m.

ST – Sergio Aguero – Independiante to Atletico Madrid, £20m

Spent five years in the Spanish capital after joining from his native Argentina before going onto be Manchester City’s record signing in 2011 at £38m.

LW – Wayne Rooney – Everton to Manchester United, £27m

Finally it’s another deal completed by the Red Devils and a decade on Rooney has proven to be worth the hassle as he has won every domestic trophy possible during his time at Old Trafford.
