Tottenham are closing in on deals for Southampton duo Morgan Schneiderlin and Jay Rodriguez, reports the Daily Mail.

Mauricio Pochettino managed the pair of them last season, and looks to be constructing an exciting looking Spurs side ahead of the 2014/15 campaign.

Here’s how the new boys could slot into Spurs’ side.

GK) Hugo Lloris

No questions here. Lloris is one of the best keepers in the world, and new signing Michel Vorm is likely to only back him up from the bench.

DR) Kyle Walker

The Englishman missed much of last season with injury, but will hope for a less riddled campaign next time out.

DC) Jan Vertonghen

Spurs best defender on his day, the Belgian is set to sign a contract extension imminently.

DC) Michael Dawson

The skipper made 31 starts in the Premier League, and due to his experience and leadership qualities, Pochettino could stick with him despite his lack of pace.

DL) Ben Davies

The young Welshman has already arrived at White Hart Lane this summer for and undisclosed fee.

MC) Morgan Schneiderlin

The Frenchman provides excellent combative industry in the middle of the park, and has the ability to provide a platform from which the rest of the side can perform.

MC) Paulinho

The Brazilian international is talented, and with Schneiderlin providing the base in the middle, he’ll be allowed more freedom to get forward and prove he can cut in the Premier League. The futures of Sandro, Etienne Capoue, Mousa Dembele and Nabil Bentaleb could become uncertain though if Schneiderlin does sign, as all will feel they deserve a starting role alongside him.

AMR) Erik Lamela

The record signing Argentine is enjoying a fruitful pre-season after last campaign’s injury ridden horror show, and he’ll likely be given the chance to prove he was worth his massive £30m sum.

AMC) Christian Eriksen

Spurs’ best player last season, Danish playmaker Eriksen has a lethal set-piece delivery, and the ability to play intricate through-balls practically at will.

AML) Jay Rodriguez

Last season for the Saints, Rodriguez notched a mightily impressive 15 goals, deployed both left, right and centrally. He predominantly played from the left though, and if he matches his goal tally next term, he’ll prove a key acquisition.

FC) Emmanuel Adebayor

Spurs have yet to sign an out and out forward, and with Roberto Soldado struggling so badly last season, Adebayor has promised he can fire Pochettino’s side into the top four in 2014/15.
