Liverpool have been handed a huge transfer boost with the news that German star Marco Reus has turned down a new contract with current side Borussia Dortmund.

The Daily Star have revealed reports in Germany, which suggest that talks between player and club have broken down, and that Reus’ £27.9m release clause remains in place.

The Premier League giants can only watch on helplessly for now, as the clause can not be activated until next summer, and with Dortmund currently refusing to sell this year, both Liverpool and Manchester United will have to bide their time.

However, with the Reds fueled by their boosted transfer kitty, courtesy of Luis Suarez’s £75m sale to Barcelona and their return to Champions League football, Brendan Rodgers could attempt to lure the Germans into a quicker sale.

With contract negotiations having seemingly failed, Borussia could now be tempted to sell the 25-year-old, if Liverpool offer them a price higher than his current buyout clause.

Liverpool have already signed six players during this transfer window: Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Emre Can, Lazar Markovic, Dejan Lovren and Divock Origi – and are showing no signs of letting up yet in their pursuit of new talent.
