Here’s ten clubs in Europe we reckon have had the most successful transfer windows so far, based on the players they’ve bought, the stars they’ve sold, and the ones they’ve managed to keep!

Manchester United miss out because of the exuberant transfer fees they’ve so far spent, while Liverpool have spent all their Luis Suarez money on six players – none of which will automatically improve the starting XI.

10) Juventus

The Italian giants have snapped up exciting young striker Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid, and Patrice Evra from Manchester United. While Arturo Vidal’s future is uncertain, Paul Pogba is likely to remain, and the Old Lady should begin their campaign to win a fourth consecutive Serie A in a strong position.

9) Borussia Dortmund

Dortmund knew they were going to lost Robert Lewandowski on a free to Bayern Munich, but as of yet, they’ve managed to keep hold of Marco Reus and Mats Hummels. They’ve also signed Nuri Sahin permanently, bought Italian forward Ciro Immobile and Colombian Adrian Ramos to replace Lewandowski, and acquired talented German international centre-back Mathias Ginter, too.

8) Newcastle United

Finally, a positive transfer market for the Magpies! After some barren recent windows, Newcastle have signed Siem de Jong, striker Emmanuel Rivirere, impressive right-back Daryl Janmaat, and the ultra exciting Remy Cabella as well.

7) Manchester City

City have not been too loud in the transfer market so far, but their business has been refined. Bacary Sagna signed on a free, and the Frenchman is one of the best right-backs in the country. Fernando provides steel in midfield, and Willy Caballero is an excellent backup option for Joe Hart. Yaya Toure will stay, despite being unhappy earlier in the summer, and Eliaquim Mangala is likely to sign at centre-back, too.

6) Atletico Madrid

Granted, Atletico have sold two of their best players in Diego Costa and Filipe Luis to Chelsea, but they secured a cool £50m for the pair, and have reinvested it excellently. Bundesliga winning striker Mario Mandzukic has replaced Costa, while Guilherme Siqueiera is a highly rated left-back. Antoine Griezmann has signed and will provide pace, skill and goals out wide, and talented keeper Jan Oblak replaces outgoing Thibaut Courtois. It’ll be a struggle for Atletico to retain La Liga, but their activity in the transfer market shows they’re doing their best to remain competitive.

5) Roma

The Serie A side acquired left-back Ashley Cole on a free transfer, and the incredibly promising winger Juan Iturbe for £17m. Radja Nainggolan has also signed for £5m, and he’s a pit bull in midfield. They could push Juventus close for the title this year.

4) Arsenal

The Gunners have already made their marquee summer signing, buying world-class Chilean Alexis Sanchez for £35m. They’ve brought in two right-backs in Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers to compete for the right-back spot – and it doesn’t look like any big names are departing, which has been a constant in recent seasons.

3) Real Madrid

Real Madrid have signed the brilliant Toni Kroos, and the World Cup’s Golden Boot James Rodriguez this summer, for £24m and £63m respectively. While the cash is steep, the talent in question is not. They should go from strength to strength.

2) Barcelona

Barcelona have made the biggest signing of the summer in the phenomenal (if a little controversial) Luis Suarez for £75m. They’ve also secured two promising keepers to fight for the no.1 jersey in Claudio Bravo and Marc Andre ter Stegen, while bringing in Ivan Rakitic for £16m is a huge bargain.

1) Chelsea

The Blues have been jaw-droppingly good in the transfer market. They’ve plugged all three problem positions with world class talent, brining in Filipe Luis at left-back, Cesc Fabregas in creative midfield, and Diego Costa up top. They also secured £40m (rising to £50m) from PSG for David Luiz, who couldn’t even get into the side at centre-back last year.
