New £30m Manchester United Signing And Liverpool Wonderkid Feature In 10 Teenagers To Excel In 2014/15

Ten teenage stars likely to make an impression this season.

10) Jordon Ibe (Liverpool)

Liverpool starlet Jordon Ibe will be hoping to enjoy a breakthrough season similar to that of teammate Raheem Sterling last year, with the 18 year-old having been heavily involved in the Reds’ pre-season preparations.

Ibe made his Football League debut as a precocious teenager at Wycombe Wanderers, scoring a screamer against Sheffield Wednesday and persuading Liverpool to make their move, where he has developed nicely in the academy, whilst also enjoying a short loan spell with Birmingham City last season.

9) James Wilson (Manchester United)

James Wilson already has two Premier League goals to his name, with the England Under 19 international grasping the chance given to him by Ryan Giggs at the end of last season with his performance against Hull City.

Wilson is unlikely to enjoy too much game time at Old Trafford this year, what with Louis van Gaal having Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney to call upon, but the fact that United seem to have no intention of sending Wilson out on loan would seem to suggest that they feel he has plenty to offer.

8) Karim Rekik (Manchester City)

Dutch central defender Karim Rekik has returned to Manchester City from a loan spell at PSV Eindhoven, where his performances in the Eredivisie suggested that he could have a role to play at Eastlands in the coming season.

A 19 year-old who has made just one senior league appearance for City, Rekik has also enjoyed loan spells with Portsmouth and Blackburn Rovers during his rapid development.

7) Jack Grealish (Aston Villa)

Teenage winger Jack Grealish has played a central role in Aston Villa’s pre-season preparations, after making his debut for the club against Manchester City at the end of last season.

Grealish had spent the majority of the 2013/14 campaign on loan at Notts County, where his quick footwork made him one of the most dangerous players in League One.

6) Nabil Bentaleb (Tottenham Hotspur)

Defensive midfielder Nabil Bentaleb became a key part of the Tottenham Hotspur team under his mentor Tim Sherwood towards the end of last season, and will be hoping to continue his progress under Mauricio Pochettino.

The 19 year-old will also be hoping to build on his 2014 World Cup campaign for Algeria, where he was an integral part of the Desert Foxes’ set-up and run to the last-16.

5) Calum Chambers (Arsenal)

Plenty of eyebrows were raised when Arsene Wenger decided to shell out £16m in bringing young Southampton right back Calum Chambers to the Emirates Stadium, but the Englishman is a fine emerging talent.

Currently at right back, Chambers’ physical stature and reading of the game could eventually lead to his long term future being at centre back, but he is likely to spend his first campaign deputising for Mathieu Debuchy.

4) Serge Gnabry (Arsenal)

German Serge Gnabry made 10 league appearances for Arsenal last season, during what was the former Borussia Dortmund youngster’s breakthrough season for the Gunners.

With Alexis Sanchez having been signed and Theo Walcott returning to fitness, Gnabry could go on loan to gain valuable first team opportunities, but he is one to watch next season either way.

3) James Ward-Prowse (Southampton)

England Under 21 international James Ward-Prowse saw much of the attention on Southampton’s home grown players lavished on former teammates Luke Shaw and Adam Lallana, but the midfielder will now be hoping to step into the limelight.

Likely to be a key part of new manager Ronald Koeman’s team, Ward-Prowse’s accurate delivery from set pieces will be worth a few goals to the Saints next season.

2) Luke Shaw (Manchester United)

Manchester United shelled out a world record fee for a teenager on left back Luke Shaw from Southampton, and will be expecting the England international to immediately step into the side as a replacement for Patrice Evra.

Shaw was impressive during his debut season for the Saints, but must continue to step up his performances if he is to justify the huge fee that United shelled out to bring him to Old Trafford.

1) Raheem Sterling (Liverpool)

Liverpool’s 19 year-old winger enjoyed a fine breakthrough season for the Reds last year, emerging as possibly the most exciting young footballer in the current.

Sterling provided a bountiful supply of goals and assists for his team last year and must step things up further if Liverpool are to adequately absorb the loss of Luis Suarez.
