The most expensive deals completed between teams from the English top tier.
Upon completing his club record £28m transfer from Chelsea to Everton on Wednesday Romelu Lukaku now features among the 10 most expensive deals between Premier League clubs of all time.
See where he ranks below:
10. James Milner – Aston Villa to Manchester City, £26m
Upon being taken over by Sheikh Mansour in 2008 the Citizens have been spending huge amounts of money and this fee paid to Villa for someone who is essentially a squad player seems extortionate.
9. Luke Shaw – Southampton to Manchester United, £27m
One of the more recent deals on the list as this summer the Red Devils landed the 19-year-old left-back in what is a British transfer record for a teenager, including add-ons.
8. Wayne Rooney – Everton to Manchester United, £27m
Yet 10 years previously United were moved to make a similar move for the then 18-year-old Rooney, who has since won every domestic trophy possible with the club.
7. Marouane Fellaini – Everton to Manchester United, £27.5m
Another move from Goodison Park to Old Trafford here as in 2013 new manager David Moyes tried desperately to secure a marquee signing to signal his arrival at the Theatre of Dreams.
6. Romelu Lukaku – Chelsea to Everton, £28m
It’s a deal that involves the Toffees making a purchase now as they were moved to pay the Blues a club record fee for a striker who scored 15 league goals whilst on-loan with them in 2013/14.
5. Rio Ferdinand – Leeds United to Manchester United, £30m
Back in 2002 the centre-back broke the British transfer record when Sir Alex Ferguson decided to shell out this large sum for a player who would enjoy 12 years of success at the club.
4. Dimitar Berbatov – Tottenham Hotspur to Manchester United, £30.5m
There is something of a theme here as the Red Devils dominate the list and this striker never really enjoyed the highs with the 21-time English league winners that he did with Spurs.
3. Andy Carroll – Newcastle United to Liverpool, £35m
A fee that makes Reds fans wince three-and-a-half years on, with Carroll arriving at Anfield for this extortionate fee despite having less than 12 months’ experience in the top flight at the time.
2. Juan Mata – Chelsea to Manchester United, £37.1m
Back in January as Moyes desperately tried to stop the wheels falling off at United he sanctioned a club record move for Mata, although it’s going to take a little more time to see if that price is justified.
1. Fernando Torres – Liverpool to Chelsea, £50m
Yet top of the pile by some way is a forward who is considered a flop at Stamford Bridge and moved at the same time as Carroll in what was a bad January transfer window for expensive mistakes.
