Liverpool close in on La Liga duo

Liverpool are reportedly closing in on the signing of two new defenders from La Liga, with the club set to bring in Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno and Atletico Madrid youngster Javier Manquillo, according to the Daily Star.

The Reds have been in the market for new signings at full-back for much of the summer, with Moreno known to be among Brendan Rodgers’ top targets, and a move may now be close to completion.

Manquillo could join as well, and can fill in in a number of defensive positions, providing Liverpool with plenty of depth at the back.

Reds to allow defender loan move to Dortmund

Liverpool look set to send young defender Tiago Ilori on a season-long loan to Borussia Dortmund, which in turn will allow Mats Hummels to join Manchester United, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Portuguese youngster has not been a regular for the Reds since joining the club from Sporting Lisbon last summer, but will now gain some valuable first-team experience if he does complete a switch to Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Still, it could be a blow for Liverpool to push through a move that would help strengthen their bitter rivals United, who have long been linked with a move for Hummels.

Arsenal eye former Liverpool full-back

Arsenal could be set to make a move for Real Madrid full-back and former Liverpool ace Alvaro Arbeloa, according the Metro.

The Gunners are on the lookout for new signings in defence after the departure of Carl Jenkinson on loan to West Ham United, and it could be that Arbeloa will make a surprise return to the Premier League.

The 31-year-old Spaniard spent two and a half years at Anfield between 2007 and 2009, and has not always been first choice during his time at the Bernabeu.

Reds eye surprise move for Spurs stopper

Liverpool have been linked with a somewhat surprising move for Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen, according to CaughtOffside.

Barcelona have also been linked with the versatile Belgian international, who has been a top performer for Spurs since joining the club from Ajax in 2012, but he has now emerged as a target for their rivals.

Vertonghen can play at both centre-back and left-back and would solve two problem positions for Liverpool if they to manage to sign him.

Arsenal back in for Liverpool target

Arsenal could be set to revive their interest in Borussia Dortmund star and rumoured Liverpool target Marco Reus, according to Fichajes.net.

The German international is widely regarded as one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe, and is attracting plenty of interest again this summer after also being in the headlines last year.

Arsenal have already beaten Liverpool to one of their main transfer targets this summer, Alexis Sanchez, and may be looking to do so again here with the addition of Reus.
