Liverpool are moving closer to completing a double swoop potentially worth £17m for two Spanish full backs, according to the Mirror, with Brendan Rodgers ready to take his summer spending past the £100m barrier.

Rodgers has been keen to bolster his defence after the club’s poor back line arguably cost them a shot at the Premier League title last season, but to date Dejan Lovren from Southampton is the only defender to have arrived at Anfield this summer.

This looks set to change, however, when Liverpool announced deals for these two full backs:

Javier Manquillo (Atletico Madrid)

Liverpool are set to complete a two-year loan deal for Atletico Madrid right back Javier Manquillo, who will arrive at Anfield to compete with England international Glen Johnson and academy graduate Jon Flanagan for the club’s first choice right back berth.

The deal does, however, include a deal that will allow Liverpool to make the transfer permanent for an initial fee of £5m at the end of the first year, should Manquillo impress sufficiently in the Premier League.

Alberto Moreno (Sevilla)

Liverpool have seemingly been on the trail of Sevilla left back Alberto Moreno for the entire summer, but the Mirror’s report now suggests that the Reds are ready to put down an initial downpayment of £12m for the young defender.

Moreno enjoyed a fine season for Sevilla as they won the 2014 Europa League, the Reds are likely to have to pay far more than the initial fee through various add-ons, with Sevilla initially having been demanding close to £20m for Moreno’s transfer.
