Bayern Munich join the chase for United target Angel Di Maria

Manchester United have been struck a transfer blow with the news that Bayern Munich are also preparing to declare their interest in Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria – who is already being heavily linked with a move to PSG.

The Sunday Times explained the hopes of both United and Munich have been boosted by Paris Saint-Germain’s difficulties adhering to Uefa financial fair play sanctions.

The Argentina international had been placed on the market by Real Madrid at an asking price of £55m and had encouraged PSG’s advances ahead of United’s because the French title-holders will play Champions League football this season.

Arsenal to rival United for Mats Hummels

Arsenal are ready to rival Manchester United in the race for £30m defensive target Mats Hummels.

The Daily Mirror believes that the Germany centre-back is available for the right price this summer, despite current club Borussia Dortmund’s denials, and Wenger won’t let Van Gaal be the only bidder.

United are also keen to sign Arsenal centre-half Thomas Vermaelen, who is wanted by Barcelona, too. The Belgian, rated at £10m, will also be a free agent next summer.

Robin van Persie to be rested for the start of the Premier League season

Robin van Persie is set to miss the start of the new Premier League season, after it was suggested that United boss Louis van Gaal was prepared to give the player a rest after his World Cup exploits.

Reports in the Daily Mirror suggests that even though the striker – 31 on Wednesday – is desperate to start in the season’s Premier League opener against Swansea at Old Trafford, Van Gaal will assert his authority by telling him that he will play only when he tells him.

The Reds’ new manager said: “Robin wants to play every game, I know that, but so do the other 30 players in the squad. But players have to train and Robin needs a full training regime behind him before he can play again.”

Van Persie returns to training on Monday following his extended leave – granted due to the Netherlands third place finish at this summer’s World Cup.

Marouane Fellaini’s wages are too high for Napoli

Manchester United flop Marouane Fellaini could price himself out of a move to Napoli, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

United will have to keep paying half of Fellaini’s £100,000-a-week wages if they want the 26-year-old Belgian to go out on loan to the Italian club.

Rafa Benitez is interested in taking Fellaini away from Old Trafford for the season after new United boss Louis van Gaal made him surplus to requirements less than a year since his £27.5million arrival from Everton.

Memphis Depay ‘mulling over his options’

Dutch World Cup Star Memphis Depay, who has been linked with moves to both Manchester United and Tottenham this summer, is still considering his next move – according to reports in the Sunday Express.

The 20-year old winger has been coy about where his next destination lies, telling Dutch paper De Telegraaf: “I am enjoying myself at PSV, but if nice clubs from big leagues make an approach, I will of course think about it.

“There is plenty of interest, but staying at PSV is definitely an option. I understand that the fans wants me to play well this season in Eindhoven. I see so many kids with my name on their shirt.”
