Anfield side look to re-sign Real Madrid midfielder.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is readying an approach for former Anfield hero Xabi Alonso with Real Madrid said to be ready to consider offers for the experienced midfielder.

The 32 year old is one of the La Liga side’s highest earners and may well be ready for a fresh challenge if he feels he isn’t a pivotal member of the Real Madrid set-up and Xabi Alonso is still fondly remembered by the Liverpool supporters and Rodgers feels that the World Cup winner could offer some much needed top level experience as the Merseyside club prepare for a long awaited return to Champions League action.
Rodgers doesn’t have a huge number of central midfield options and is ready to listen to offers for injury prone Brazilian Lucas Leiva and is ready to table an opening offer of around €10m (£7.9m) so as to test the water, and to ascertain Alonso’s reaction to Liverpool’s interest.
Alonso spent five hugely successful seasons at Liverpool, helping Rafa Benitez’s side to a Champions League triumph in his first campaign, making 210 appearances for the Premier League side before leaving for Real Madrid in a £30m move back in June 2009.
Liverpool’s resurgence could well work in their favour and the club are ready to match the player’s current salary as part of a three year contract, that could well lead to a possible coaching role.
