Ten Premier League Players Who Could Get Into The England Squad In 2014/15 Including Arsenal And Liverpool Stars

The English players not currently in the running for the Three Lions who could be with a great year.

With the 2014/15 Premier League season less than two weeks away there is much anticipation around who will be the standout stars of the next 12 months.

For many English players this will serve as an opportunity to show national team manager Roy Hodgson that they should be selected on the international stage.

Here are 10 stars from the division not currently in Hodgson’s plans, but could well be with a decent campaign.

Calum Chambers, Arsenal

Having been signed by the Gunners for £16m there is much expected from this 19-year-old and although competing with Mathieu Debuchy at the Emirates Stadium, with the ability to also play at centre-back Chambers should get plenty of game time.

Nathaniel Clyne, Southampton

There are some issues at right-back for Hodgson currently, with neither Glen Johnson or Kyle Walker having done much to impress over the past 12 months and with Clyne now gifted the spot at St Mary’s due to Chambers’ departure, he could make it his own for the national side too.

Fabian Delph, Aston Villa

Many would argue that the 24-year-old was unlucky to miss out on the 23-man squad for the 2014 World Cup after his performances for Villa last term and with Steven Gerrard and probably Frank Lampard now out of the picture, central midfielders are needed.

Jon Flanagan, Liverpool

Just pipped to the position of first backup for the World Cup by Everton’s John Stones, but if Flanagan can have as good a year for the Reds as he did in 2013/14 then this versatile full-back has a great chance.

Kieran Gibbs, Arsenal

Another from North London now and a left-back who is unfortunate to have been playing at the same time as Ashley Cole, Leighton Baines and Luke Shaw, but with Cole retired and Gibbs being five years Baines’ junior, his chance could well come.

Danny Ings, Burnley

After impressing in the Championship last campaign this could well be the chance for the 22-year-old to emulate Andy Johnson at Crystal Palace and catch the eye of the national team manager whilst playing for a relegation threatened team.

Jake Livermore, Hull City

As previously mentioned central midfield places are up for grabs and Livermore’s defensive credentials make him a great foil for the more attack minded Ross Barkley and Jack Wilshere and impressed last year with the Tigers.

Jack Rodwell, Sunderland

Having ended his nightmare at Manchester City with a £10m move to the Stadium of Light, this is a chance for Rodwell to get his career back on track – which started so promisingly at Goodison Park.

James Ward-Prowse, Southampton

As proven in recent years the Saints academy is prolific and Ward-Prowse looks to be the next star to follow in the footsteps of Adam Lallana, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott and make it on the international stage.

Ashley Young, Manchester United

Perhaps a surprise inclusion at the end as the 29-year-old has been given chances by Hodgson before and failed, by early signs under Louis van Gaal suggest this could well be a positive 12 months for Young.
