Manchester United have just completed their pre-season tour of America, and new manager Louis van Gaal has led his new side to five wins from five.

Despite his early success, the Red Devils are still expected to make moves in the transfer market before the start of the 2014/15 campaign, reports the Daily Star, and the club apparently want to move for three stars the new manager has worked with at international level with the Netherlands.

Ron Vlaar

First up is Aston Villa’s skipper, nicknamed ‘Concrete’ – partly because of his strength and solidity, but also partly because of his total lack of pace! He hardly pulled up any trees during his last Premier League campaign with Villa, but performed superbly under van Gaal during the World Cup with the Dutch, which has seen his stock meteorically rise. Vlaar also excelled in the 3-5-2 formation, in which he was the middle defender of the three centre-backs.

Daley Blind

Blind was another key player for van Gaal during the World Cup, and has emerged as a target because of his versatility. He can play the left wing-back role, and in holding midfield, due to his impressive technical ability and passing skills. At 24, he’s the perfect age, and because he plays for Ajax, his transfer fee would unlikely be extortionate. Barcelona are also interested, so United would have to move quickly to snare their man.

Kevin Strootman

Strootman has been continually lauded as a key van Gaal target. The Roma man actually missed the World Cup with injury and is still on the sidelines, with most reports reckoning that United will wait to see him prove his fitness during the first months of the Serie A season before potentially deciding to bid for him in January.
