GK) Wojciech Szczesny

The Polish goalkeeper has improved steadily in recent years, and has rewarded the faith put in him by his manager by becoming a reliable and consistent stopper. His exploits last season won him the Golden Glove.

RB) Mathieu Debuchy

The French defender has established himself as an excellent Premier League full-back during his time with Newcastle, and will need to play well in order to keep youngster Calum Chambers firmly on the bench.

LB) Kieran Gibbs

Gibbs has been threatening to realise his potential as an international standard left-back for several years, but has thus far been restricted by injuries. This could be the year for him to make the position his own for club and country.

CB) Per Mertesacker

The giant German may not be the quickest, but he reads the game well and has now fully adapted to life in the Premier League after a difficult start. Has at least another year at the top level.

CB) Laurent Koscielny

Another player who has rewarded his manager’s faith by becoming a top class player. The Frenchman is now an extremely reliable defender, even if he still occasionally loses his sense of positioning.

DM) William Carvalho

The Sporting Lisbon man is one of the most talented young midfielders in Europe, and would certainly be the world class holding player Arsene Wenger has been craving, should the Gunners be able to force through a move.

CM) Aaron Ramsey

After a wonderful breakthrough year that saw him names Arsenal’s player of the season, despite missing over three months of Premier League action through injury, expectations are sky high for the Gunners Welsh star.

CM) Jack Wilshere

The England star will need to step up his game after a distinct lack of development over the last couple of seasons, not helped by several injury issues. He will know that his place in the team is very much under threat.

RW) Alexis Sanchez

Arsenal’s new £35m signing has all the attributes to be a superb Premier League player, having impressed in both the Italian and Spanish divisions already in his career, as well as be the driving force behind Chile’s recent successes on the international stage.

LW) Mesut Ozil

Another Arsenal player who will hope to improve on last season, but with a year of Premier League experience under his belt and the morale boosting effect of World Cup success, the Gunners record signing could be in for a big year.

ST) Olivier Giroud

Not the most graceful of an otherwise attractive team, but the big French target-man is most definitely a necessary component of this Arsenal team, and gives them a different option up top.
