Manchester United are believed to have brought to an end their pursuit of long term transfer target – Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal – over concerns that the Chilean has a long-standing knee injury.

The Daily Express have reported that United boss Louis van Gaal rejected the potential £47m deal due to concerns over the player’s long-term fitness.

The midfield powerhouse has been linked with a move to Old Trafford continually this summer after becoming a key player for the Turin giants, and his future in Serie A appears to be in doubt despite new boss Massimo Allegri insisting he wants to keep hold of the star.

Various reports claim that the Red Devils are unwilling to meet Juventus’ valuation, with the Old Trafford hierarchy determined to spend no more than £35million on the 27-year-old, but Vidal’s national coach Jorge Sampaoli claims that Van Gaal is reluctant to sign him due to concerns over a knee injury picked up last season.

He told El Mercurio: “United want Vidal but Van Gaal has doubts. Vidal was a great example during the World Cup in Brazil of not playing in the best of conditions.

“Manchester United want him, but what restrains his move to England for $80million is Van Gaal, who has doubts over his condition to the knee.”
