Liverpool Rumour Roundup: Luis Suarez News, Arsenal Want Reds Star And Shock Reunion On The Cards

Wednesday’s biggest stories for the Reds.

Liverpool lead the race to sign FC Barcelona’s Dani Alves

A deal to secure the right-back appears to be moving closer after Alves’ agent denies talks with Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain, reports the Independent.

Manager Brendan Rodgers is keen to add competition for the incrasingly unreliable Glen Johnson and is preparing a £5.5m offer for the 31-year-old.

Alves is expected to be joined by fellow full-back Javier Manquillo, who will sign from Atletico Madrid on a two-year loan deal.

Real Madrid’s Xabi Alonso could make shock return to Anfield

Despite having been a key part of the Madrid team since joining from Anfield in 2009 head coach Carlo Ancelotti is prepared to axe Alonso this summer, according to the Mirror.

Either the Spain international or Sami Khedira is expected to be sold and whilst the German World Cup winner remains the favourite to leave, that is far from confirmed.

Alonso enjoyed five years of success with the Reds last time around, helping them secure an historic Champions League win in 2005.

Barcelona were in contact with Luis Suarez well before the 2014 World Cup

The Catalans president Josep Bartomeu has confirmed that the club were in talks with Suarez long before the World Cup in Brazil started.

The 27-year-old had previously stated he would not be leaving Merseyside, but these revelations show that the Uruguayan had thoughts of departure long ago.

“When we approached Suarez, it was before the World Cup. We told him that he had the right age. He had the experience,” Bartomeu was quoted by the Mirror.

Arsenal make shock approach to sign vice-captain Daniel Agger

The defender has emerged as a surprise transfer target for the Gunners as they look for a replacement for skipper Thomas Vermaelen.

The Belgian has been strongly linked with a move to either Barca or Manchester United this summer and the Daily Star says that Arsene Wenger sees Agger as the ideal alternative.

The Denmark international is likely to be open to a transfer as well having fallen down the pecking order under Rodgers in recent times.

Rodgers sends message of warning to Louis van Gaal

After watching his side lose 3-1 to van Gaal’s Red Devils on Sunday the Northern Irishman has told the 62-year-old things will be a lot harder in the Premier League.

Rodgers claims that despite the fact the Dutchman has won league titles with Ajax, Barca and Bayern Munich, English football will be the most difficult test he has faced.

“I think what he’ll find is the competition in this league will be different to any other league that he’s worked in,” the 41-year-old as quoted by the Mirror.
