The Reds have been heavily linked with Ezequiel Lavezzi, but how would the Argentina attacker fit into Brendan Rodgers’ already offensive lineup…?

GK) Simon Mignolet

The Belgian is head and shoulders ahead of reserve stopper Brad Jones.

DR) Jon Flanagan

Glen Johnson’s awful pre-season shows that young Flanagan may get the nod as first choice next term, with young Spaniard Javier Manquillo also arriving to compete for a starting spot.

DC) Dejan Lovren

The £20m signing provides composure on the ball, height, and aggression in defence. He’ll surely walk into the lineup.

DC) Mamadou Sakho

Sakho is fit, incomparably powerful, and a better passer than both Martin Skrtel, and Daniel Agger, who is likely to depart.

DL) Alberto Moreno

The young Spanish defender is expected to imminently complete a £16m move to compete with Jose Enrique for the left-back spot.

MC) Steven Gerrard

The club captain still has at least one more season in the anchorman role, with the likes of Emre Can and Lucas providing ample backup.

MC) Jordan Henderson

One of the first names on the team sheet. Henderson provides unrivalled energy and pressing in the middle.

AMR) Raheem Sterling/Lazar Markovic

Both new signing Markovic and wonderkid Sterling provide pace, goals and dynamism from the right, or the left – (or even centrally) if Rodgers prefers.

AMC) Coutinho/Adam Lallana

Lallana’s currently crocked, but the £26m signing will have a job on his hands to dispossess brilliant Brazilian Coutinho of the playmaker role.

AML) Ezequiel Lavezzi

Lavezzi would add raw pace, goals, energy and creativity to the Liverpool XI. He’s experienced too, and his versatility would enable him to become an essential part of Rodgers’ free-flowing attacking setup.

FC) Daniel Sturridge

It’s crucial that Sturridge stays fit this coming season, with ageing forward Rickie Lambert providing pretty average backup from the bench since Luis Suarez’s departure.
