Manchester United Rumour Roundup: Liverpool Send Warning, Artuto Vidal Deal Collapses, But £29m Alternative Is Found

The biggest stories from the Red Devils.

Manchester United interest in Arturo Vidal wanes over injury issues

The pursuit of the Juventus midfielder may have ended for the Red Devils following concern over the Chilean’s knee problems.

Vidal’s national team manager Jorge Sampaoli says that whilst the club are keen on the 27-year-old, new boss Louis van Gaal is less convinced.

“Manchester United want him, but what restrains his move to England for $80million is Van Gaal, who has doubts over his condition to the knee,” Sampaoli was quoted by the Daily Express.

A £29m move for Fiorentina’s Juan Cuadrado is still going ahead though

Despite the Vidal deal being on the rocks United are still looking to land Cuadrado this summer in a deal worth £29m, according to the Daily Star.

The Colombia international has also been targeted by FC Barcelona after an impressive 12 months in Serie A and at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Van Gaal is keen not to talk about the deal for the 26-year-old in the media though for fears that La Viola will ratchet his price up.

Tom Cleverley vows to put his bad form behind him

In what was an extremely disappointing campaign for the club in 2013/14 , Cleverley in particular came in for heavy criticism.

The 24-year-old accused many people of using him as a scapegoat, but has now vowed to put his poor form behind him and become a regular for club and country.

“I want to prove a few people wrong. It makes you develop a lot thicker skin. You’ve just got to take it on the chin,” the England international was quoted by the Mirror.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers sends message of warning to van Gaal

After losing to his side 3-1 in the International Champions Cup in the USA on Sunday, Rodgers has told his opposite number that English football is tougher than what the Dutchman is used to.

Despite having won league titles in Germany, Spain and his native Netherlands, the Reds manager says van Gaal is about to undertake his most difficult challenge yet.

“I think what he’ll find is the competition in this league will be different to any other league that he’s worked in,” Rodgers was quoted by the Mirror.

“I think the competition will probably take him by (surprise), and that’s from foreign managers I have spoken to over the years.”

Barcelona make opening £10m bid for Red Devils target Thomas Vermaelen

United have fallen behind in the race to sign Arsenal captain Vermaelen as Barca send an opening bid to the North London side, reports Sky Sports.

Both the Catalans and the 13-time Premier League winners are keen on the 28-year-old, but the former have tabelled an opening £10m offer for the Gunners to consider.

The Spanish giants view the Belgian as the ideal replacement for recently retired skipper Carles Puyol.
