Arsenal are interested in signing Liverpool’s 29-year-old Danish centre-half Daniel Agger before the start of the 2014/15 season. Agger has been a long and faithful Anfield servant, and is actually the club’s vice-captain, although with the emergence of Mamadou Sakho, and the £20m signing of Dejan Lovren, he’ll struggle for game time this term.

Four other players have represented the two English giants since the Premier League commenced, and you can discover them by scrolling through the pages below.

Nicholas Anelka

The controversial but brilliantly talented striker enjoyed two seasons at Arsenal between 1997 and 1999, before he was sold for a whopping £22.3m fee to Real Madrid. He flopped in Spain though, and was shipped out to boyhood club PSG after just one season. He was still reeling from his La Liga failure however, and Liverpool’s French boss Gerard Houllier took advantage and secured a loan deal for the forward in 2001, then aged just 22. Anelka did relatively well at Liverpool, but not enough to earn himself a permanent deal at Anfield, scoring five goals in total.

Jermaine Pennant

Pennant moved from Notts County to Arsenal when he was still only 15-years-old in 1999, for what at the time was a record fee for a trainee. He only ever made 12 appearances for the Gunners in the top flight, and didn’t really find his feet until a permanent transfer to Birmingham in 2005 was completed after numerous loan spells. Here he excelled, earning a transfer to Liverpool, where he competed in their failed Champions League final in 2007. Pennant’s now a bench player at Stoke.

Yossi Benayoun

The talented Israeli playmaker moved to Liverpool in 2007, and in three seasons, Benayoun bagged 18 Premier League goals, before moving to Chelsea in 2010. During three seasons with the Blues though he only made 14 Premier League appearances, and spent a campaign on loan at the Gunners in 2011/12, where he did very little of note either!

Kolo Toure

The likeable Ivorian defender was actually a key member of the Arsenal Invincibles side in 2003/04, where he played alongside Sol Campbell in central defence. After moving to Manchester City and winning another title, Toure eventually signed for Liverpool on a free last summer, and very nearly became the only ever man to win three titles.
