Man United are looking to complete the capture of long term target Arturo Vidal in a matter of days with the Old Trafford side looking to unveil the Chilean as their third signing of the summer next Monday.

The 27 year old has made it abundantly clear he wishes to leave Juventus and has already agreed terms on a five year contract worth around £180k a week whilst Old Trafford boss Louis van Gaal has convinced Man United’s owners to fork out a club record €55m (£43m) to meet the Italian side’s valuation.

Van Gaal has been keen to bring in Vidal ever since he was took over at Man United, having previously tracked the attacking midfielder during his spell in charge of Bayern Munich, and the Dutch manager has agreed to offload a number of squad players in order to help balance the books following the proposed purchase.

Vidal has played a key role in Juventus’s three successive Serie A title winning campaigns, scoring 28 goals in domestic league action alone over the course of those triumphs, and has set his sights on an exit from the Turin outfit ever since former boss Antonio Conte left the club in mid-July.

Man United’s owners are keen to bring in further big name signings, having already signed Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw from Athletic Bilbao and Southampton respectively, and they may feel that a club record breaking capture would act as a further statement of intent that will help erase the memory of last term’s shocking seventh place Premier League finish.

Indeed Man United will have watched on as Chelsea have spent around £75m on new signings, with Arsenal investing nearly £60m on additions and arch rivals Liverpool fork out nearly £90m on six players and as such may feel it necessary to bank-roll van Gaal in a similar fashion.

Vidal will offer Man United a seamless link from midfield to attack, acting in an advanced role not unlike Paul Scholes in his pomp, and his imminent arrival will most likely lead to the club allowing the likes of Marouane Fellaini, Javier Hernandez, Shinji Kagawa, Anderson, Nani and Wilfried Zaha to leave.
