Thursday’s biggest stories from Old Trafford.

Inter Milan prepared to let Fredy Guarin leave for Manchester United

The Italians are willing to left United’s long-term target Guarin leave the San Siro in order to make space for Parma’s Jonathan Biabiany, according to the Daily Star.

New manager Louis van Gaal is keen to add another midfielder to his squad before the 2014 summer transfer window shuts and the Colombia international could be the ideal purchase.

Guarin would also be a far cheaper alternative to Juventus ace Arturo Vidal, who van Gaal has concerns over due to injury issues in the past.

United on alert as Mehdi Benatia prepares to leave AS Roma

Due to Roma’s pursuit of £8m central defender Konstantinos Manalos speculation has erupted again that Benatia will be leaving the Italian capital this summer.

The 27-year-old’s future has been in doubt ever since the Serie A club refused to give him a new contract and with van Gaal after a new centre-back the Moroccan could be the perfect solution.

However, reports in the Daily Express suggest the 13-time Premier League winners would have to pay £30m for Benatia and will face competition from Chelsea and Real Madrid.

Red Devils to offer £15m for Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen to ward off Barcelona interest

There are new developments in the club’s pursuit of another defender though, with £15m expected to be offered for Vermaelen after Barca tabled a £10m bid on Wednesday, according to the Daily Mail.

The Belgium international has been strongly linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium this summer due to a lack of game time and Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has admitted he could be sold.

The North Londoners are concerned about selling Vermaelen to a direct rival though, so United are likely to have to out-bid the Catalans if they want the 28-year-old.

Van Gaal still keen on signing Netherlands international Daley Blind

The Afax defender – who the new manager knows well from their time working together with the Dutch national team – remains a target for the club this summer, reports the Guardian.

Blind impressed at the 2014 World Cup where he played as both a left wing-back and a centre-back, but can also operate in defensive midfield and was named as Dutch Player of the Year for his role there in 2013/14.

Van Gaal is keen to add more full-backs to his squad with only Rafael and new signing Luke Shaw recognised in the positions currently.

United teenager breaks 25-year-old 100m record

A youngster from the academy has broken the 100m school record that was held by Darren Campbell for a quarter of a century.

RoShaun Williams set a time of 10.99 seconds, beating Olympic gold medal winner Campbell’s previous record of 11.19 by some way.

The 15-year-old has been congratulated by the former British athlete for finally setting a time under 11 seconds.
