Atletico Madrid could be set to join their rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid in making some ‘Galctico’ signings of their own before the end of the summer, with Fichajes.com reporting that four big names are on their list of potential attackers to come in, as well as a surprise move for a former Barcelona star.

Having won La Liga last season, Diego Simeone has so far seen a number of his side’s star players leave for moves to bigger clubs, with Diego Costa and Filipe Luis both joining Chelsea, while Thibaut Courtois has also returned to Stamford Bridge after spending three seasons on loan at the Vicente Calderon.

The likes of Mario Mandzukic and Antoine Griezmann have come in so far this summer, but Simeone still wants more big names in attack, with some exciting targets thought to be on the Argentine’s agenda, as well as a new goalkeeper footing this superb five-player shortlist.

5) Victor Valdes (Unattached)

Still a free agent since leaving Barcelona at the end of last season, Victor Valdes could be in line for a surprise return to La Liga with rivals Atletico Madrid. The Spanish champions are keen to sign another goalkeeper after failing to keep Thibaut Courtois, and Valdes could be a terrific, experienced option to come in and provide competition for new signing Jan Oblak between the sticks.

4) Fernando Torres (Chelsea)

After some highly disappointing form at Chelsea over the last few years, it is no surprise to see Fernando Torres emerge as one of the targets for his old side Atletico Madrid. The Spanish striker may benefit from a move away from Stamford Bridge after failing to live up to his £50m transfer fee that brought him to London from Liverpool, and he could still provide Diego Simeone’s side with some quality upfront after losing Costa to the Blues.

3) Andre Schurrle (Chelsea)

A surprise name to recently emerge as a target for Atletico is another Chelsea attacker in Andre Schurrle. The versatile German international impressed in fits and starts last season, though he showed a glimpse of better things to come with his performances for his country at this summer’s World Cup, where he finished with a winners’ medal in Brazil. The 23-year-old certainly has a bright future in the game, but may find opportunities limited at Chelsea due to the vast competition for places in Jose Mourinho’s squad.

2) Santi Cazorla (Arsenal)

A top player since joining Arsenal from Malaga in 2012, it is thought that classy Spanish playmaker Santi Cazorla could make a quick return to La Liga this summer with Atletico Madrid. The 29-year-old would certainly be a big loss for the Gunners, but they may feel now will be their only chance to cash in on the player, who would certainly be a useful addition to Simeone’s squad in the attacking midfield department.

1) Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund)

One of the best attacking players in the world, Marco Reus of Borussia Dortmund is thought to be a highly ambitious target for Atletico Madrid this summer as they look to give themselves a chance of retaining their La Liga title against the big spending of their rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid. Reus would no doubt be a world class addition to rival the likes of Luis Suarez and James Rodriguez brought in by the other big two in Spain, though the likes of Arsenal are also thought to be in for the immensely talented 25-year-old.
