The Reds have been tracking the Argentine international for some time as they continue to search for a replacement for Luis Suarez, and reports earlier this week had suggested that the club had lodged a £17.9m bid for his services.

The news on a deal has since dried up, with Lavezzi said to be happy at PSG, but the Daily Express now says the French club are forcing him out to fund other deals.

PSG are said to be trying to raise enough cash to complete a deal to sign Real Madrid star Angel Di Maria after claiming to be out priced for the player, and they are now thought to be hoping that Liverpool will open their chequebook for Lavezzi.

The 29-year-old is not expected to stay where he is not wanted and Liverpool now have a clear path at landing his signature.

Both Juventus and Napoli are said to be interested in bringing him on board, but the Reds have the upper hand after the player admitted his interest in playing in the Premier League.
