Goalkeeper and Defence

GK) Wojciech Szczesny – The Arsenal number one looked commanding between the sticks in the Community Shield win over Manchester City and is the obvious choice for Arsene Wenger.

RB) Mathieu Debuchy – Also looked good at Wembley and has certainly been brought in to be a first team regular for the Gunners.

CB) Laurent Koscielny – Will be charged with holding the Arsenal defence together with regular partner Per Mertesacker set to miss out having started pre-season late.

CB) Calum Chambers – Has shown enough in his fledgling Arsenal career to suggest that he can step up to the park and replace Mertesacker for the opening fixture.

LB) Kieran Gibbs – An important season awaits for Gibbs, who Wenger has put plenty of faith in as first choice left back.

Central Midfield

CM) Mikel Arteta – The newly named full-time Arsenal captain looked solid at Wembley and his calm head will be important to allow the creativity around him to flourish.

CM) Jack Wilshere – Played well enough in the Community Shield to suggest that he deserves to start against Crystal Palace in what will be a huge season for Wilshere.

ACM) Aaron Ramsey – Playing in a slightly more advanced role will be Aaron Ramsey, who is one of the Gunners’ key goal threats and scored against City at Wembley.

Attack

ARM) Alexis Sanchez

ALM) Santi Cazorla – The Spaniard’s goal and all-round performance against City is likely to be enough to earn him a start.

SC) Olivier Giroud – Wenger started with Yaya Sanogo at Wembley, but Giroud is likely to be restored to the line-up after coming on at the break and scoring a fine goal.
