Here’s how we rated the Liverpool players who started against Borussia Dortmund in today’s pre-season friendly battering…

GK) Simon Mignolet – 7

Barely had anything to do, but distributed the ball well.

DR) Javier Manquillo – 8

Really solid debut from the young Spaniard. Defensively he was rarely troubled, but he passed the ball well, and regularly overlapped Coutinho on the right.

DL) Glen Johnson – 6

As always a willing runner up the flank, but he occasionally made sloppy decisions with the ball at his feet.

DC) Dejan Lovren – 8

Bagged a goal on his debut with a header from a corner, and didn’t put a foot out of place all afternoon. Great start.

DC) Martin Skrtel – 7

Marshalled Liverpool’s defence well, and his selection today suggests he’ll likely get the nod to start the first game of the Premier League season next weekend.

DMC) Steven Gerrard – 7

Dictated Liverpool’s tempo in his deep-lying anchorman role. Played some superb, sprayed passes as well.

MC) Jordan Henderson – 7

Pressed and harried the Dortmund midfielders all afternoon. Henderson scored Liverpool’s fourth as well, and was keen to get forward as much as possible.

MC) Emre Can – 6

Very quiet on his Anfield debut. The worse of the midfield trio.

AMR) Coutinho – 9

Coutinho played beautifully deft touches and flicks all afternoon. He assisted Sturridge’s opener, and bagged Liverpool’s third goal with a clever left-footed finish.

AML) Raheem Sterling – 9

Ludicrously good. Sterling regularly left defenders for dead, won nearly all of his individual duals thanks to his strength, and made clever decisions for the entire 90 minutes. It’s crazy to think he’s still only 19-years-old.

FC) Daniel Sturridge – 9

With Sturridge playing like this, Liverpool might not miss Luis Suarez after all. The 24-year-old scored the opener, and assisted the fourth after excellent work on the right wing.
