Arsenal – Laurent Koscielny – The Frenchman formed a superb partnership with Per Mertesacker last season and is key to holding the Gunners’ defence together.
Aston Villa – Ron Vlaar – Keeping the Dutch international fit and tying him down to a new deal will be vital for Paul Lambert, with Villa’s defence noticeably weakened without him.
Burnley – Danny Ings – Burnley forward Ings’ ability to adapt to life in the Premier League may determine how well Sean Dyche’s men are able to do.
Chelsea – Diego Costa – The lack of a genuine centre forward was Chelsea’s big problem last season, they need Costa to change this if they are to challenge for genuine honours.
Crystal Palace – Mile Jedinak – Crystal Palace’s Australian rock in central midfield was the fulcrum around which Tony Pulis rebuild Palace last season.
Everton – Ross Barkley – Really began his emergence as a top player last season and will have a lot of pressure to create for Romelu Lukaku this season.
Hull City – Shane Long – A tireless worker in attack and relentless runner of the channels, Shane Long is crucial to the way Steve Bruce’s Hull play.
Leicester City – Danny Drinkwater – The tidy central midfield player and former Manchester United trainee will probably need to make the step up if Leicester are to avoid relegation.
Liverpool – Daniel Sturridge – With Luis Suarez gone, the pressure will really be on Sturridge to score even more goals for the Reds than he managed last season.
Manchester City – Vincent Kompany – City always seem to be a little bit lost without their influential and solid captain at centre back.
Manchester United – Ander Herrera – United’s midfield was so flaky last season that it needs Herrera to beef things up if they are to challenge for the top four again.
Newcastle United – Moussa Sissoko – The Frenchman is a driving force in midfield, providing both physicality and creativity for the Magpies.
Queens Park Rangers – Charlie Austin – With Loic Remy still likely to leave Loftus Road, Charlie Austin will need to score the goals to help Rangers avoid relegation.
Southampton – Victor Wanyama – Morgan Schneiderlin still looks likely to leave St. Mary’s, meaning that Kenyan Wanyama will be chief destroyer in central midfield.
Stoke City – Ryan Shawcross – So much of what Stoke City are able to do is based on the solid displays from Shawcross in central defence.
Sunderland – Connor Wickham – The young English striker’s goals were key to keeping Sunderland up and, with a return for Fabio Borini looking unlikely, he may need to do it again.
Swansea City – Wilfried Bony – Big Ivorian centre forward Wilfried Bony was Swansea’s chief source of goals last season, and little is likely to change this time around.
Tottenham Hotspur – Erik Lamela – Getting the best out of the club’s record signing, who struggled so badly last season, could be key to whether Mauricio Pochettino can take Spurs forward.
West Bromwich Albion – Chris Brunt – The midfielder is not just a leader for West Brom but also a key source of goals from midfield.
West Ham United – Enner Valencia – The extent to which the Ecuadorian is able to find his feet may determine whether Big Sam keeps his job at Upton Park.
