Goodison Park side look to beat Anfield rivals in race for Cameroonian.
Toffees boss Roberto Martinez will look to tempt Cameroon international Samuel Eto’o to Goodison Park this summer as he looks to beat local rivals in the pursuit of the former Chelsea man according to the Liverpool Echo.
Everton smashed their club record transfer fee to land Belgian Romelu Lukaku in a £28m deal but could still feel they could add to their attack and Eto’o is a player who still has what it takes to unlock the strongest of defences.
Though Eto’o is clearly some way past his best the 33 year old still managed to net a dozen goals in all competitions last season and is on the look out for a new club.
Eto’o will no doubt be looking to secure a big wage packet, not least as he wouldn’t cost a penny to sign, ahd clearly a move to Liverpool would offer the marksman Champions League action.
Aside from Lukaku Roberto Martinez doesn’t possess all that much in the way of effective goal-scoring options with Scottish international Steven Naismith not exactly being prolific. Arouna Kone missed most of last term due to a knee injury and will hope to make an impact in 2014/15.
Martinez can however rely upon winger Kevin Mirallas and attacking midfielder Ross Barkley to offer a real threat in the final third.
