Fitting €48m Arturo Vidal Into Manchester United’s New Look 3-5-2 Formation

How would Arturo Vidal fit into Manchester United’s current team…

Find out who are the most valuable players in world football.

Arturo Vidal to Manchester United is circling the internet today, after it emerged that Juventus would be happy to sell the midfielder for €48m, plus Nani and Javier Hernandez to the Premier League giants…

Here’s how the world-class operator could fit into Louis van Gaal’s 3-5-2 system.

GK) David de Gea

After a difficult start to life in the Premier League, the Spaniard has established himself as one of the best keepers around, and was one of the few players to impress under David Moyes.

CB) Chris Smalling

A vital season ahead for the young England defender, who needs to prove that he belongs at the club or face the exit door next summer.

CB) Jonny Evans

A loyal servant and without any new signings he remains the best central defender in United’s squad. He will need to be at the top of his game to adapt to Louis van Gaal’s new formation and help the more inexperienced players around him.

CB) Phil Jones

A make or break season for the England international, he needs to push on and prove he deserves to be at Old Trafford. His versatility makes him a decent squad player, but this is chance to show he belongs in the starting line-up.

RWB) Antonio Valencia

A useful utility player who can provide cover in a number of positions, who was worth keeping hold of this summer. The Ecuadorian will be in direct competition with Rafael for this role, and his attacking prowess could see him get the nod.

LWB) Luke Shaw

Will be the cornerstone of United’s team for years to come, although will want to prove early on that he was worth the £30m price tag. Will have to wait to do so, having been ruled out for the first month of the season with a hamstring injury.

CM) Ander Herrera

Will want to make an instant impact and justify his £28m transfer fee. However, he has shown in pre-season that he has ability to be the creative missing link that United are craving.

CM) Arturo Vidal

The 27-year-old Chilean is one of the most complete midfield players, and while he might command a hefty price, United fans will have their mouths watering at the prospect of seeing the Juventus star in a United shirt.

CM) Juan Mata

Will need to work hard to impress Louis van Gaal, but shouldn’t have any trouble keeping his spot after an impressive end to last season.

ST) Wayne Rooney

The new Manchester United captain will be expected to push on after being entrusted with the Old Trafford armband, and will be expected to score plenty of goals as well as lead those around him.

ST) Robin van Persie

Louis van Gaal’s star player at international level will play exactly the same role in his manager’s new club side. Now fully-fit, the Dutchman is one of the favourites for the golden boot.
