Manchester United could be boosted in their pursuit of Fiorentina winger Juan Cuadrado with the news that Barcelona have dropped out of the running for his signature, according to the Metro.

The Red Devils have been tracking the Colombian international for much of the summer so far, but may now be in a good position to sign him after their main competitors cooled their interest in buying him themselves.

However, Chelsea are also believed to be eyeing him and could still scupper the 26-year-old’s proposed move to Old Trafford.

Chelsea join chase for United target

Chelsea may also be about to hijacj another Manchester United move after opening talks with AS Roma over the signing of in-demand Moroccan centre-back Mehdi Benatia, according to the Daily Express.

The 27-year-old was one of the best defenders in Europe last season and had emerged as one of Louis van Gaal’s top targets to come in and strengthen his back four this summer, though a move never materialised.

The Blues will now hope to add him to their already-impressive list of defensive optionsm ahead of their title rivals.

Rojo bid hits snag

Manchester United’s bid to bring in Sporting Lisbon defender Marcos Rojo may have hit a snag, with a complication over the ownership of the player’s rights, according to BBC Sport.

The versatile Argentine international has now emerged as United’s top defensive target due to his ability to play both centre-back and left-back, but it is unclear who should be receving a large chunk of his transfer fee.

Sporting have rejected an opening bid of aroiund £15.9m for his services, with around 75% of any transfer fee expected to go to a third party.

United flop close to loan move

Queens Park Rangers could be close to completing the signing of Manchester United winger Wilfried Zaha on a season-long loan deal, according to the Sun.

The England international, 21, has struggled badly since moving to Old Trafford from Crystal Palace last summer, and had been linked with a return to his old club, though QPR now seems his likely destination.

Zaha has been one of many unwanted squad players linked with an exit under Louis van Gaal’s regime this summer.

Goalkeeper considering future

Manchester United’s backup goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard is reportedly considering his future ahead of the new season, according to Sky Sports.

It is claimed that youngster Ben Amos is now David de Gea’s backup for the new season, meaning Lindegaard will likely see very little playing time as the club’s third choice between the sticks.

West Ham United have previously been linked with Danish international, but it remains to be seen if they are among his suitors this year.
