Crystal Palace Looking To End 20-Year Record With Win At Arsenal Today

Palace look for long-awaited win against Gunners.

Arsenal will be big favourites to kick off the new Premier League season with a win against Crystal Palace today, with their opponents winless against them in the last twenty years.

The Gunners won 2-0 in both home and away fixtures against Palace last season, and you have to go all the way back to 1994 since the Eagles last won against their illustrious London rivals, with two goals from John Salako leading to a shock 2-1 win at Highbury – their only ever away win against Arsenal in league history.

Arsenal’s record in London derbies is generally strong, with Arsene Wenger’s side defeating the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Fulham home and away last season as picking up six points against Palace.

Palace faired well enough in derby games last term, beating West Ham United home and away as well as earning a shock victory at home to Chelsea late on in the season, while they finished 2013/14 with a 2-2 draw with relegated Fulham.

Arsenal are particularly strong at the Emirates Stadium and have not lost at home in the league since the opening day of last season, when they got off to a nightmare start as Aston Villa came from behind to win 3-1 in north London.

All in all, the stats point heavily towards an Arsenal win today, with new signings Alexis Sanchez and Mathieu Debuchy expected to shine after moving to the club this summer.
