Brendan Rodgers tells Raheem Sterling he has to wait for a pay rise

Despite having had a brilliant previous 12 months on Merseyside the manager has told youngster Sterling to be patient.

The 19-year-old is only 18 months into his current £35,000-a-week deal and Rodgers says that won’t be increased anytime soon.

“When you reward young players too quickly – Raheem’s still only 19 – you give them too much too early and that will be their downfall,” the 41-year-old was quoted by the Mirror.
