Transfer blow for United after opening day defeat.

Manchester United look like missing out on one of their top transfer targets of the whole summer after Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti ruled out selling Angel Di Maria, the Daily Star reports.

The Red Devils have been desperate to bring in the Argentine wide-man this summer to improve their attacking midfield options, but it looks increasingly likely now that he will remain at the Bernabeu for the time being.

Paris Saint-Germain were also linked with thre 26-year-old earlier in the summer, but Ancelotti now insists the player is part of his plans for the new season, as well as Arsenal and Chelsea target Sami Khedira.

“They are Real Madrid players,” the Italian said. “They didn’t play in the Super Cup because they joined the group on August 5th.

“The transfer market is over and we won’t re-open it.”

This will come as another major blow for United and their new manager Louis van Gaal, who were beaten 2-1 at home by Swansea City on the opening day of the Premier League season, making the case for the need of new signings even stronger than before.

United struggled badly under David Moyes last season, finishing in 7th place, and things don’t look like improving this term with the club being forced to field youngsters such as Jesse Lingard and Tyler Blackett against the Swans at Old Trafford on Saturday.
