The 10 Highest Paid Premier League Players Including New Arsenal Signing & Manchester United Captain

Those earning the most in the English top tier.

The 2014/15 Premier League season is upon us and day one brought shocks in the shape of Manchester United’s defeat to Swansea City, whilst title hopefuls Arsenal put their first three points on the board.

There are a number of highly paid individuals in the English top tier and here are the top 10, with statistics courtesy of Purely Football.

10. David Silva, Manchester City – £140,000-a-week

Has recently extended his stay at the Etihad Stadium by a further five years and having created more chances in the league since his 2010 arrival from Valencia than any other player, this seems thoroughly deserved.

9. Alexis Sanchez, Arsenal – £140,000-a-week

Arrived at the Emirates Stadium from FC Barcelona this summer after a £35m fee was agreed between the two clubs and made his competitive debut against City in his side’s 3-0 Community Shield victory last Sunday.

8. Diego Costa, Chelsea – £150,000-a-week

Another new addition to the league now as after scoring 36 goals in all competitions for Atletico Madrid in 2013/14 the Blues were moved to meet this striker’s £32m release clause.

7. Cesc Fabregas, Chelsea – £150,000-a-week

After three years with his boyhood club Barca the Spain international is back in English football after completing a £30m move to Stamford Bridge.

6. Sergio Aguero, Manchester City – £150,000-a-week

Despite being injured for much of the last campaign the Argentine still managed to score an impressive 17 goals in just 23 appearances in the league and Aguero is among the best forwards in the division.

5. Fernando Torres, Chelsea – £175,000-a-week

This could make a few Blues fans wince considering that the Spaniard has largely been considered a flop since his British record £50m switch from Liverpool in 2011 and it’s these huge wages that makes moving Torres on difficult.

4. Eden Hazard, Chelsea – £185,000-a-week

Backed by owner Roman Abramovich’s billions the West Londoners pay their players large amounts, although with two PFA Player of the Year nominations to his name since a 2012 transfer this 23-year-old appears to be worth it.

3. Robin van Persie, Manchester United – £200,000-a-week

Much is expected of this Netherlands international following the arrival of his fellow countryman Louis van Gaal as manager, with United looking to rediscover their winning form.

2. Yaya Toure, Manchester City – £200,000-a-week

With Luis Suarez having departed for the Nou Camp it’s widely believed that this midfielder is now the best player in England after scoring 20 league goals last term.

1. Wayne Rooney, Manchester United – £300,000-a-week

One of David Moyes’ biggest decisions during his brief time as United boss was sanctioning the deal to make Rooney the highest paid player in the country with a colossal new pay packet.
