The Five Worst Clubs In The Transfer Window This Summer, With Tottenham & Premier League New Boys

Crystal Palace also included…

For us, these five top five Premier League clubs have been the least impressive in the transfer window so far…

5) Tottenham Hotspur

Badly needing a striker following last season’s extremely tame showing from Roberto Soldado, Spurs have so far failed to bring in a forward of requisite forward. Instead, they’ve snared former Swansea pair Ben Davies and Michel Vorm, who while good players will hardly take Maurcio Pochettino’s side to the next level, and young defenders Erik Dier and DeAndre Yedlin. All pretty uninspiring.

4) Burnley

Promoted teams should arguably take small risks to sign Premier League quality players. Burnley have not. Instead, they’ve spent very modest sums on the likes of Marvin Sordell, Michael Kightly and Steven Reid. Still, it’ll stand them in good stead should they go straight back down the the Championship…

3) Aston Villa

So far, they’ve spent £2m, on Aly Cissokho, who was atrocious during a loan spell at Liverpool last season. That aside, they’ve only signed out of contract players, such as Joe Cole Kieran Richardson, and Senderos.

2) West Brom

The Baggies shelled out £10m on Ideye Brown, the little known African forward from Dynamo Kiev. The transfer seems like a serious risk, with the Nigerian having never proved himself in a top league. Free transfer signings Chris Baird, Joleon Lescott and Craig Gardner are all probably past their best.

1) Crystal Palace

The Eagles have been so bad in the transfer window that their excellent manager Tony Pulis left before the season even started. Instead of strengthening, as last season’s impressive finish suggested they could, they’ve only spent cash on Martin Kelly and Frazier Campbell, while offloading nine players.
