Arsenal Captain Mikel Arteta Compares Aaron Ramsey With Chelsea Midfielder

Gunners skipper praises Ramsey impact.

Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta has heaped praise on his in-form team-mate Aaron Ramsey, comparing him with Chelsea star and former Gunners great Cesc Fabregas, the Daily Mirror reports.

The Welshman was one of the best players in the Premier League last season, enjoying a meteoric rise in form after initially being little more than a squad player at the Emirates Stadium.

Ramsey also looks to have started the new season in fine form, netting once in the Community Shield win over Manchester City and scoring a stoppage time winner to give Arsene Wenger’s side all three points in their first league game of the season at home to Crystal Palace.

The 23-year-old has now become one of the team’s most important players, and Arteta says his displays remind him of Fabregas at his best for Arsenal, when the Spaniard started to add more end product to his game after starting out as another of the club’s promising youngsters.

“Aaron’s on fire. A player like this coming from midfield to score that many goals gives you something extra,” he said.

“He reminds me a bit of Fabregas when he was here. At his best, Fabregas was coming off the front, making the final ball and scoring very important goals.

“I think he will get better with experience and confidence. People fear him now because they know he can create things and that gives you an extra yard, which is very important.”

Ramsey’s superb run of form may be part of the reason Wenger neglected to re-sign Fabregas when he became available this summer, with the former Gunners skipper instead moving to Chelsea after becoming surplus to requirements at Barcelona.
