Chelsea Player Ratings From 2-0 Win Over Leicester City: Thibaut Courtois & Eden Hazard Star For Jose Mourinho’s Men

Chelsea players assessed following win over Foxes.

After starting the season with a 3-1 win at Burnley, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho opted to name an unchanged starting XI for Saturday’s home game against Leicester City.

The Special One’s team selection was vindicated, as Chelsea battled to a 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge.

Diego Costa fired his side ahead just after the hour mark, before Eden Hazard made sure of the points on 77 minutes.

Here’s how Mourinho’s men rated:

Goalkeeper: Thibaut Courtois – 9/10

Had a surprisingly busy afternoon, having to make a decent stop to deny Riyad Mahrez and two saves to thwart David Nugent, all when it was 0-0, in order to earn his first ever Premier League clean sheet.

Right-back: Branislav Ivanovic – 7/10

Struggled against the pace of Jeff Schlupp early on, but improved as the game went on. He was a real threat going forward and he played a key role in Costa’s opener.

Left-back: Cesar Azpilicueta – 7/10

A tidy and understated performance. Did very little wrong. Nice one, Dave!

Centre-back: Gary Cahill – 6/10

Made a good block in the first half.

Centre-back: John Terry – 8/10

Solid throughout. Showed his class and experience to make an excellent tackle to halt Riyad Mahrez in the penalty area in the first half, when the Leicester man was threatening to put the visitors ahead.

Midfield: Nemanja Matic- 6/10

Slightly below his normal high standards.

Midfield: Cesc Fabregas – 7/10

Looked in total control, while others where flapping around him. Provided an assist for Hazard, meaning that he has created three goals in his first two games for Chelsea.

Attacking midfield: Andre Schurrle 5/10

Had very little effect as an attacker and was unconvincing in his attempts to defend and tackle.

Attacking midfield: Oscar – 7/10

Impressed in flashes. Smashed the post with a brilliant curling effort from long range.

Attacking midfield: Eden Hazard – 8/10

The best attacking player on the pitch by a country mile. He made six successful dribbles, seven key passes and registered two shots on target, including the one which brought him his goal, via a deflection.

Forward: Diego Costa – 6/10

Displayed good reactions to net his second goal in a Chelsea shirt. That effort was his only shot on target though. He did not look happy when he was replaced by Didier Drogba on 80 minutes.

Subs:

Ramires – 6/10
Willian – 7/10
Didier Drogba – 6/10
