A £56m deal has apparently been agreed by both sides, a club record fee for the Old Trafford side, and super agent Jorge Mendes is on his way to Manchester to finalise the switch.
A deal is set to be completed in the coming days following the Argentine international’s handing in of a formal transfer request.
Di Maria has been promised the number seven shirt and could be seen as the ‘next Cristiano Ronaldo’ and certainly offers boss Louis van Gaal some real quality in the final third.
The 26 year old battled manfully to secure a regular spot in Carlo Ancelotti’s starting eleven last term following the arrival of Gareth Bale, finishing 2013/14 as Real Madrid’s leading assist maker, but the signing of Colombian James Rodriguez may well have proven the final straw.
The outlay on the aforementioned Rodriguez, and fellow summer captures Toni Kroos and Keylor Navas, could well have led Bernabeu president Florentino Perez to consider selling a player or two to help balance the books and aid moves to adhere to UEFA’s FFP (Financial Fair Play) guidelines.
