Manchester City will be hoping to field an improved XI for Monday’s match against Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium with two key players set to return to the starting lineup…
GK) Joe Hart
Despite the signing of Willy Caballero from Malaga this summer, Joe Hart looks to have remained number one in goal for Manchester City, and should start again here for the Premier League champions.
DR) Pablo Zabaleta
Despite missing the start of the season after his lengthy involvement with Argentina at this summer’s World Cup, Zabaleta will surely come back in to start ahead of the out-of-position Gael Clichy at right-back.
DL) Aleksandar Kolarov
Manuel Pellegrini’s preferred option at left-back, one would expect Kolarov to get the nod over Clichy on this side of defence as well.
DC) Vincent Kompany
The club’s best defender and captain of the side, Vincent Kompany’s display will be crucial for City in such a big game as he prepares to take on Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling.
DC) Martin Demichelis
Despite the signing of exciting young defender Eliaquim Mangala from Porto, Demichelis looks likely to continue as Kompany’s first-choice partner in defence for the time being.
MC) Fernando
Another summer signing from Porto, Fernando impressed on his Premier League debut against Newcastle United and could feature again in midfield.
MC) Yaya Toure
The undisuputed star of this team, Yaya Toure will be hoping to put in a strong display in midfield to put Liverpool to the sword.
MR) Samir Nasri
Although Jesus Navas could make an appearance, Samir Nasri seems the more likely to start on the right-hand side of midfield for City.
ML) David Silva
After a superb performance capped with a goal in the win over Newcastle, David Silva is surely set to continue as the team’s creative hub as they take on Liverpool.
FC) Edin Dzeko
Another player who caught the eye with a fine display in the Newcastle game, Dzeko should continue to be first choice upfront for City in Monday’s game at the Etihad Stadium.
FC) Sergio Aguero
Coming back to partner Dzeko upfront should be Sergio Aguero, another Argentine who has been eased back into action at the start of this season, but who came off the bench to score the second at St James’ Park last week.
