Despite having already made three major signings this summer in the shape of Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo, Manchester United’s spending is thought to be far from done.

Here are five players that the Red Devils are still keen on signing.

Mehdi Benatia, AS Roma

After losing 2-1 at home in shock fashion to Swansea City in their opening Premier League fixture, United have been quick to try and improve their defence.

The departure of both Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic as centre-backs has left big gaps and although Rojo has since been acquired, with Benatia available from Roma the 27-year-old is looking like an attractive prospect.

Daley Blind, Ajax

Left-back is also an area that needs improvement following the departure of both Alexander Buttner and Patrice Evra, even though both Rojo and Shaw have been signed as replacements.

New manager Louis van Gaal is also a big fan of this 24-year-old having worked with him with the Netherlands national team and Blind’s ability to play on the left, in central defence and in defensive midfield makes him a useful figure.

Nigel de Jong, AC Milan

Van Gaal has also been looking to plug a gap in holding midfield as well, with a player wanted to compliment the attacking capabilities of fellow new face Herrera.

Like Blind this former Manchester City ace is also a Dutch international and has worked with the new boss and also has the added bonus of experience in English football.

Angel di Maria, Real Madrid

Perhaps the biggest name linked with Old Trafford this summer and a player who appears to be a very realistic prospect having handed in a transfer request at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

Di Maria would certainly bring some world-class ability and much needed creativity to the midfield, although where exactly van Gaal would fit the Argentina international in is still unknown.

Arturo Vidal, Juventus

Finally it’s another midfielder who would bring some top-class ability to the squad with many rating Vidal as the finest box-to-box player in world football currently.

Juve have said the 27-year-old is not for sale, but there is every chance the Chile international could be tempted into a move, even if no Champions League football is on offer currently.
