The second weekend of the Premier League season has now drawn to a close, following an exciting weekend of action dominated by goals, comebacks and, as ever, the performances of some of the division’s finest young talents. Here are our top ten for the weekend:

10) Lazar Markovic (Liverpool)

Despite only being used as a second half substitute during his Premier League debut at Manchester City, a game which Liverpool lost, new boy Lazar Markovic showed enough pace and skill to suggest that he may be a very exciting addition.

9) Connor Wickham (Sunderland)

Sunderland striker Connor Wickham seems to have been around forever, so it may be some surprise that he is only 21 years old. The former Ipswich man but in a powerful display against Manchester United, but could’ve done better with a couple of chances in the box.

8) Michael Keane (Manchester United)

Centre back Michael Keane came on as a first half substitute for Manchester United at Sunderland due to an injury to Chris Smalling and, despite looking nervous, helped to shore up the United defence in what was a poor game on Wearside.

7) Calum Chambers (Arsenal)

Despite a poor defensive performance overall by Arsenal, teenage defender Calum Chambers once again exuded the air of a player who has a massive future in the game – he is confident on the ball and reads the game incredibly well for such a young player.

6) Raheem Sterling (Liverpool)

Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling was the best player on the pitch for the opening half an hour of their 3-1 defeat to Manchester City but, much like his team, the wonderkid fizzled out once the hosts had taken control of the game at Eastlands.

5) Nabil Bentaleb (Tottenham Hotspur)

Mauricio Pochettino has kept faith in the young Algerian international at the start of this season and Bentaleb is repaying him in spades with some dynamic but controlled central midfield displays for a Spurs side who have begun very well.

4) Liam Moore (Leicester City)

Despite Leicester City losing out 2-0 on their trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea, young defender Liam Moore was absolutely exceptional – particularly in the first half when the Foxes barely gave their illustrious hosts a sniff.

3) Andre Wisdom (West Bromwich Albion)

Young Liverpool loanee Andre Wisdom struggled on his West Bromwich Albion debut last weekend, but looked much more solid and composed this time around as the Baggies picked up a very useful 0-0 draw at Southampton.

2) Romelu Lukaku (Everton)

Another player who struggled last weekend but stepped things up this time around was Romelu Lukaku, whose dominant physical display against the Arsenal centre backs was one of the building blocks of an Everton performance that was excellent until a late collapse – after Lukaku was substituted by Roberto Martinez.

1) Eric Dier (Tottenham Hotspur)

Eric Dier enjoyed the perfect debut for Tottenham last week when he scored a last gasp winner against West Ham – and he was at it again this time, heading home a near post head in the rout of QPR. Other than that, however, Dier was solid defensively, tidy on the ball and generally looks like an exceptional young player.
