Manchester United to make £45m double swoop for Daley Blind and Arturo Vidal

New manager Louis van Gaal is considering taking this week’s spending to over £100m by landing the Ajax and Juventus stars, according to the Mirror.

On Tuesday the Red Devils signed Angel di Maria from Real Madrid in a British record transfer deal of £59.7m, but the Dutchman still wants more recruitment.

Van Gaal is concerned about Vidal’s knee issues of last season, but is still willing to sanction £30m for the Chile international, whilst Blind is expected to fetch around £15m.

However, other reports suggest Blind is likely to cost nearer to £20m

The Sun disagrees with their red top rivals after comments from Ajax’s director of football Marc Overmars that the Netherlands international will cost a ‘top price.’

Van Gaal is understood to be keen on a reunion with Blind at Old Trafford having managed him in the Dutch national team, but Overmars will not allow the 24-year-old to leave on the cheap.

“We believe we have a strong team and want Daley to stay for another year. Only if the absolute top price is paid is a transfer negotiable,” the former Arsenal winger said.

Arsenal rule out move for Danny Welbeck

Although reports suggest Gunners striker Olivier Giroud is set to be out until 2015 with a broken ankle, manager Arsene Wenger is not looking for a replacement.

Initial reports suggested moves for AS Monaco’s Radamel Falcao, Nikola Zigic of Birmingham City and Welbeck, but Wenger does not want any of these forwards, according to London24.

The England international has been told he can leave United by van Gaal, although the club do not want him to join another top six Premier League side.

Red Devils will make £24m bid for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho

After Wednesday night’s 4-0 humiliation against MK Dons in the Capital One Cup, van Gaal has decided to shake things up in his midfield.

The Telegraph reports that the 63-year-old has turned back to his former target Carvalho in a £24m move and offload Tom Cleverley and Shinji Kagawa as a result.

The 22-year-old has been strongly linked with a move from Sporting this summer and Wenger is also thought to be interested in the Portugal international.

Club legend Paul Scholes says 3-5-2 formation is not working

Having guided Netherlands to third place at the 2014 World Cup using the tactic, van Gaal has since tried to introduce the 3-5-2 at United.

Although results from pre-season suggested it could work, two defeats and a draw in 2014/15 has proven otherwise and Scholes thinks the new system is to blame.

“Three men at the back doesn’t seem to be working for them yet. The players don’t seem to have adapted comfortably to 3-5-2,” the former England international wrote in the Independent.
