Despite having already spent £131.7m on four major signings this summer, Manchester United are still looking to land another central midfielder in the 2014 summer transfer window.

Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo and Angel di Maria have all be purchased by new manager Louis van Gaal and here are the other stars the Dutchman has his eye on.

Daley Blind, Ajax

A Netherlands international who has been strongly linked with the club due to his close association with van Gaal from the two years they spent together working with the national team.

Blind is an attractive prospect due to his versatility, as although the 24-year-old won Dutch Player of the Year for his role in central midfield, he can also play as a left-back and centre-back.

Nigel de Jong, AC Milan

Another Dutch international now and therefore a player van Gaal knows well from his time managing the Oranje between 2012 and 2014.

The Red Devils are looking for an enforcer to compliment the more creative nature of di Maria, Herrera and Juan Mata and de Jong has Premier League experience from his time with Manchester City.

William Carvalho, Sporting Lisbon

This Portugal international has been strongly linked with a £24m move to some of England’s biggest sides for some time, with Arsenal and Chelsea also understood to be interested.

Carvalho is another defensively minded player who is more than happy to sit in front of the back four and break up play before distributing it to the attack.

Sami Khedira, Real Madrid

Despite playing a key part in Germany’s 2014 World Cup triumph there are still huge question marks over Khedira’s future at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

That is because the 27-year-old has entered the last year of his current contract and doesn’t look close to signing a new deal, meaning Madrid may aim to cut their losses and at least make some money.

Arturo Vidal, Juventus

Although this Chile international has just stated his intentions to stay in Turin, as history has told us if the price is right every player can be sold and Juve would take a significant fee.

Vidal may well be the perfect signing for van Gaal – but will have a price-tag that reflects that, with £34m plus a player being quoted – due to his impressive box-to-box abilities.
