Sunderland manager Gus Poyet is still hoping to bring in either Danny Welbeck or Fabio Borini before the transfer window closes on Monday, report the Express, with the forwards believed to be set to leave Manchester United and Liverpool respectively.
Poyet has been pursuing a move for Borini all summer, with the Italian international having impressed with his performances for the Black Cats during a season long loan move to Wearside last season and a deal reportedly being on the table for a permanent move, but the former AS Roma forward is believed to prefer the option of returning to the Stadium of Light on loan once again.
Welbeck, meanwhile, is believed to have been made available for transfer by Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, although a loan deal is perhaps more likely for the England forward if he was to arrive at Sunderland, with both Everton and Tottenham Hotspur also having been linked with a move for the United academy graduate.
Sunderland have started the season in reasonable form, picking up useful points away from home against West Bromwich Albion and at the Stadium of Light against Manchester United, whilst Poyet’s side also breezed past Birmingham City in the League Cup, but Poyet seems keen to add firepower to his side before the deadline on Monday.
