Chelsea beat Everton 6-3 in an incredible Premier League match-up at Goodison Park this evening, with Diego Costa in amongst the goals for the Blues but Mourinho’s defence looking uncharacteristically brittle.

This is how we would rate the players that took to the pitch for the Blues:

GK) Thibaut Courtois (6) – Former Atletico Madrid loanee Courtois clearly has incredible reflexes, but seemed strangely nervy, throwing the ball to Everton on a couple of occasions.

RB) Branislav Ivanovic (7.5) – Powerful full back Branislav Ivanovic has started the 2014/15 season in incredible form for Chelsea, as he showed again with a goal and solid performance in this one.

CB) Gary Cahill (5) – Seemed hesitant and nervous, things which aren’t normally associated with the confident Cahill – will be frustrated by his display.

CB) John Terry (6) – Captain John Terry looked much more composed than his central defensive partner, but it is hard for a centre back to play well when his team concedes three goals.

LB) Cesar Azpilicueta (5.5) – The Spaniard didn’t play well – he was exposed in defence and didn’t get forward to any great effect.

CM) Ramires (8) – A hard-working, physical display from Ramires who grasped his opportunity – although Mourinho may be concerned by the goals conceded on his watch.

CM) Nemanja Matic (7) – Clunked around midfield and got himself on the scoresheet with a thumping finish, but didn’t protect the back line particularly effectively.

CM) Cesc Fabregas (8) – Fabregas looks like an absolutely immense signing for the Blues, picking up another assist and generally controlling the centre of the park.

ARM) Willian (8) – Willian isn’t the most technically gifted footballer, bit he seems to accept this, and is excellent at creating space and works extremely hard.

ALM) Eden Hazard (7.5) – Eden Hazard is Chelsea’s finest creative presence when he’s at his best, but still managed to charge into the box to force an own goal from Seamus Coleman.

SC) Diego Costa (9.5) – Diego Costa was the best player on the park by some distance – he held the ball up, he frustrated and wound up the Everton defence, created space for others and scored two fine goals. Looks to be an immense signing.

SUB) Filipe Luis (5.5) – Sent on to shore up the defence but seemed to get overwhelmed as Everton pressed forward.

SUB) John Obi Mikel (7.5) – Another player who came on to help defensively, but ended up assisting Diego Costa’s sixth goal with a superb backheel through to the Spaniard.

SUB) Didier Drogba (5) – Had no real opportunity to impact on the game.

MAN) Jose Mourinho (7) – His team earned themselves a victory with a tough display, but Mourinho is likely to be furious and frustrated by his team’s defending and the manner in which they allowed Everton back into the game.
