The 24 year old is still to agree personal terms with the Old Trafford side but it seems fairly likely that he will become Louis van Gaal’s fifth high-profile signing of the summer.
Blind has represented Ajax since the age of eight and may well feel the time is right to leave his hometown club having won four successive Eredivisie titles.
Louis van Gaal will be looking to strengthen his defensive options and Blind can play across the back as well as in a defensive midfield role and is a player he knows well from his time in charge of the Dutch national team set-up.
Man United have already spent over £130m to bring in Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera and Angel di Maria from Sporting Lisbon, Southampton, Athletic Bilbao and Real Madrid respectively.
Blind played a key role in Holland’s 2014 World Cup campaign and is a very able performer and like most who graduate from the Ajax academy Man United will, it seems, be acquiring a player who is very comfortable on the ball and a very versatile performer.
