Gunners in surprise link with City misfit.

Arsenal could make an audacious attempt to sign Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo after missing out on a number of their other targets, it has emerged.
The Gunners are desperate to bring in a new signing upfront before the summer transfer window closes on Monday night, but look like missing out on the likes of Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao as they seal moves elsewhere.
A new striker has become a priority for Arsene Wenger after losing Olivier Giroud to a four-month injury, but looks as though main target Remy will put the seal on a move to Chelsea later today after agreeing personal terms with the club and undergoing a medical, which looks to have been successful despite previous reports that he failed this procedure at Liverpool earlier in the summer.
Although Arsenal are also understood to have met Remy’s £8.5m release clause at Queens Park Rangers, they may have moved too late to prevent him from moving to Stamford Bridge instead, with Jose Mourinho eyeing a replacement for Fernando Torres since his move to AC Milan.
Meanwhile, Falcao is wanted by City, Real Madrid and Juventus after becoming unsettled at AS Monaco, and it currently looks as though it is the Italian giants who could win the race for his signature.
City are still in the hunt, however, and it has emerged that if they were successful in bringing the Colombian international to the Etihad Stadium, then Negredo would need to be sold for the club to adhere to Uefa’s Financial Fair Play regulations.
Whilst Real are known to be considering Negredo as an alternative to Falcao, Arsenal will also hope to be in the running to sign the experienced Spaniard, who scored 23 goals in all competitions for City last season.
The 29-year-old has all the attributes to replace Giroud upfront for Arsenal, though he is arguably not the ideal candidate due to also currently being out injured, albeit only until September.
City will no doubt hope to avoid selling to one of their rivals, but may not be in a situation where they can afford to be picky if they hope to avoid another penalty from Uefa for breaching rules in the transfer market.
Although Negredo himself may favour a return to La Liga, it is thought that he would be open to joining Arsenal if they step up their interest.
