Five Strikers Who Could Make Moves On Transfer Deadline Day

Several strikers are on the market as the transfer window prepares to close.

The final day of the transfer window is nearly upon us and their are still many, many deals to be concluded before the window slams shut at 11pm on Monday. While plenty of goalkeepers, defenders and midfielders are all still on the market, arguably it is the amount of top quality strikers that are still available that is most interesting. Here are five strikers who could move clubs on deadline day.

1. Radamel Falcao

The Columbian striker was one of the big money transfers last summer but he didn’t end up where most people expected him to. Falcao signed for AS Monaco, a side who had just been promoted to Lique 1 but who had been taken over by a Russian businessmen, meaning they had plenty of money to spend. It looked like Monaco would become a new European super power however, just one year after landing the likes of Falcao and James Rodriguez, it all seems to be falling apart at the Stade Louis. Rodriguez has already left, moving to Real Madrid in a £70 million deal. It now appears that Falcao also wants out.

The striker appears desperate to leave France before the transfer window closes and their appears to be no shortage of potential suitors. Real Madrid appear to be favourites at the moment. Yesterday, Falcao sent out a tweet suggesting he had just signed for the Spanish Champions. He quickly deleted the tweet but this does seem to suggest that a deal with Real could be close. However, deals can fall apart on transfer deadline day and if it does, clubs like Manchester City, Arsenal and Juventus will all be looking to add the former Atletico Madrid man to their squads before the window closes.

2. Fabio Borini

Borini appears to be surplus to requirements at Liverpool despite showing plenty of promise during his loan spell at Sunderland. The Black Cats are interested in signing the Italian striker on a permanent deal but Borini doesn’t appear to be interested in moving to the Stadium of Light on a long basis. Borini is willing to go back to Sunderland on another season long loan but if he is to leave Liverpool permanently, he wants to move to a bigger club.

If that is to happen, he may have to move back to Italy. Both AC Milan and Inter Milan are interested in signing the striker however, both are currently strapped for cash so they may not be able to afford Borini’s price tag. Another possible destination for Borini is Atletico Madrid. The La Liga Champions are still looking to sign a striker before the transfer window closes and are suitably impressed by the Italian’s performances for Sunderland last season.

3. Javier Hernandez

The Manchester United front man appears to be getting fed with life at Old Trafford after four years at the club. In that time, Hernandez has been a success, scoring 37 Premier League goals for the Red Devils. Unfortunately, the Mexican striker has scored most of those goals from the bench. Hernandez has been frustrated at the lack of first team opportunities at Old Trafford for awhile but it appears that now he has reached the point where he feels like he needs to leave the club.

Several sides are reportedly interested in Hernandez signature with Juventus and Real Madrid thought to be front runners. Hernandez goal poaching abilities would add quality to both of these sides however, it is unknown whether he would get more first team opportunities at either of those European giants than he has at Manchester United. His departure could also depend on the future of fellow United striker Danny Welbeck. If Welbeck leaves, Hernandez may have to remain at Old Trafford as manager Louis Van Gaal won’t want to lose both strikers on transfer deadline day.

4. Edinson Cavani

Like Falcao, Cavani moved to France last summer in a big money move. Paris St Germain paid over £50 million for the Uruguayan’s services however, the striker has unfortunately struggled to justify that price tag. At Napoli, Cavani was prolific, scoring 38 goals in 43 appearances in his final season with the Italian club. At PSG, Cavani has struggled to have the same sort of impact. He rarely plays as the main striker with Zlatan Ibrahimovic still seen as the main man at the Parc des Princes. A move away from PSG could benefit Cavani and their are several clubs interested in signing the striker.

The club who appears to be most interested are Arsenal. The Gunners have been monitoring Cavani all summer but may now decide to step up their interest following Olivier Giroud’s injury. Cavani certainly won’t come cheap with PSG looking to recoup most of the £50 million they paid for the striker however, if Cavani recaptures his form from his Napoli days then he will be an amazing signing.

5. Mattia Destro

The young Italian striker scored 13 goals for Roma last season and appears to have built up quite a reputation in his homeland. The 23 year old has plenty of potential. This is something that several top European clubs have seen, not least Chelsea. Blues boss Jose Mourinho is looking to sign another striker before the transfer window closes after losing Fernando Torres to AC Milan and it appears he has made Destro his main target. The only sticking point maybe Roma’s £20 million valuation of their young striker.

It is doubtful that Mourinho will want to spend £20 million on a player who will be very much a back-up this season but, the Italian’s potential may persuade the Portuguese boss to part with a sizeable transfer fee.
