Daniel Agger says goodbye to Liverpool after joining Brondby

The Denmark international has ended his eight-year stay at Anfield and has returned to his former club after falling down the pecking order.

Agger was vice-captain for the Reds, but had Martin Skrtel, Mamadou Sakho and Dejan Lovren ahead of him for a place in the starting XI.

“Liverpool have been such a big part of my life and my family’s lives for so long, that leaving is extremely difficult,” the 29-year-old was quoted by the Mirror.

Interest grows in Sampdoria goalkeeper Sergio Romero

With Pepe Reina having left for Bayern Munich and doubts over the capabilities of Brad Jones, backup for Simon Mignolet is needed between the sticks.

That is what has drawn the Merseyside club to Romero, who is also represented by the same agent as new signing Mario Balotelli – Mino Raiola.

Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Raiola is overseeing negotiations and a deal is expected to be completed before the transfer window closes on Monday.

Manchester United are ready to hijack the Romero deal

The Merseysiders do face competition from their great rivals though, who are also looking to land the Argentine as backup for their own No.1.

Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport says the Red Devils view Romero as the ideal ‘keeper to challenge David de Gea for a place between the sticks.

United are likely to sell Anders Lindegaard and there are still concerns over the capabilities of Ben Amos.

Inter Milan interested in signing Fabio Borini

The future of the striker remains in the balance as the Serie A side become the latest club to show interest in the Italian.

According to Sky Sport Italia Inter are keen to take Borini on-loan, with the option to buy the 23-year-old permanently in May.

Sunderland are known admirers of the forward and had a £14m bid accepted by the Reds, but the player wanted to stay at Anfield and fight for his place.

Balotelli wants to take penalty duties off Steven Gerrard

The new £16m signing has made a cheeky bid to take penalties ahead of the captain having scored the first 26 in his professional career.

Balotelli is known as something of a specialist from spot kicks and manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed the Italian is keen to carry on.

“He has asked who takes the penalties. He’s brilliant at it. And he knows it as well. But Steven Gerrard is the penalty-taker. Mario has been told that,” the 24-year-old was quoted by the Mirror.
