On Monday the 2014 summer transfer window will close and Manchester United are still looking to sign more players despite having paid out £131.7m already.

Here are the stars on the Red Devils’ shortlist.

Daley Blind, Ajax

This is on the verge of completion as United announced on Friday that a fee has been agreed for the Netherlands international and now just a medical needs to be completed and personal terms agreed.

Blind is an extremely versatile player who can operate at left-back, centre-back or in central midfield and the 24-year-old has worked closely with new manager Louis van Gaal before.

William Carvalho, Sporting Lisbon

With Angel di Maria and Ander Herrera having already been purchased this summer van Gaal is now keen to sign a holding midfielder to compliment the imports from La Liga.

Carvalho is ideally suited for that role and is available to sign from Sporting for around £24m, which for a highly promising 22-year-old could well be worth it.

Nigel de Jong, AC Milan

Another defensive midfielder now and a Dutchman who has also worked with van Gaal as part of their time together with the Oranje national team.

De Jong has experience in the Premier League as well having spent three-and-a-half years with Manchester City and helping them to the title in 2011/12.

Sami Khedira, Real Madrid

It could be a double raid on the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu this summer for the Red Devils as Khedira is being heavily linked with a move away from the Spanish capital currently.

That is because the Germany international has entered the final year of his current contract and could be just the sort of box-to-box player who would compliment the likes of di Maria and Herrera.

Sergio Romero, Sampdoria

Although Liverpool have been strongly linked with his goalkeeper, United have now entered the chase as they look for better backup for David de Gea.

Anders Lindegaard could well be sold and there are still question marks over the capabilities of Ben Amos and if de Gea were absent for any reason the cover is hardly inspiring.

Arturo Vidal, Juventus

Finally it’s perhaps the longest running saga of the summer, with United understood to be interested in the midfielder and the chances of them signing him seeming to change all the time.

Vidal is a world-class performer, but would have a price-tag that would reflect that and van Gaal has concerns over a knee injury that struck the 27-year-old down last term.
