The 2014 summer transfer window came to a close on Monday night and it concluded what had been another bumper period of moves in and out of the best clubs in Europe.

Here CaughtOffside picks out the ultimate XI of new signings.

GK – Keylor Navas

Having impressed with Levante in 2013/14 and then Costa Rica at the 2014 World Cup, Madrid made a move for this goalkeeper with Diego Lopez leaving for AC Milan as a result.

The 25-year-old is currently behind Iker Casillas for a place between the sticks, but with the captain being increasingly erratic it won’t be long before Navas is there instead.

RB – Mathieu Debuchy

The departure of Bacary Sagna to Manchester City on a free transfer was a major blow for Arsenal, but what better way to replace the 31-year-old than with the man who is ahead of him for a place in the France national team.

Debuchy joined Arsene Wenger’s men in a £12m deal from Newcastle United and has started life at the Emirates Stadium promisingly.

CB – Mehdi Benatia

Just 12 months after signing for AS Roma from Udinese the centre-back was on his way again in a £24m switch to the Allianz Arena.

Benatia was in superb form last term and helped Roma to second in Serie A and therefore a return to the Champions League, but contract disputes saw him exit the Stadio Olimpico.

CB – David Luiz

Although many claim that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho conducted a brilliant piece of business by getting £40m for Luiz, there is no denying the Brazil international has talent.

Paris Saint-Germain now need to find the best place to utilise the 27-year-old, which many think could actually be in defensive midfield.

LB – Filipe Luis

There were a few left-backs on the move this summer and whilst Filipe is yet to play for the Blues we still rate him the highest of the lot.

That is because the Brazilian helped Atletico Madrid to the Champions League final and La Liga triumph last campaign and looks solid in all situations.

CM – Cesc Fabregas

Another signing for the West Londoners now and after three years back with his boyhood club FC Barcelona, the Spain international made his return to the Premier League.

Fabregas was previously captain of the Gunners during his eight year spell in North London and has immediately taken to life back in English football.

CM – Toni Kroos

Having entered the final year of his contract with Bayern the Bundesliga champions decided to cash in on the German whilst they still had the chance and Madrid made the move to land him.

Kroos has been in brilliant form for both club and country in recent times, capping that off with a World Cup winners’ medal in Brazil.

CAM – Angel di Maria

Keeping £63m man James Rodriguez out of this team is the man he replaced at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu and has now become the most expensive player in British transfer history at £59.7m.

Manchester United were the club that sanctioned that huge fee in a bid to improve their fortunes under new manager Louis van Gaal.

RF – Radamel Falcao

Another Red Devils signing now as on deadline day on Monday, United secured the striker from AS Monaco in unlikely fashion on a season long loan.

Falcao is considered to be among the best finishers in world football and along with di Maria will be looking to improve his new side’s form.

ST – Robert Lewandowski

Arguably the finest free transfer ever seen, Lewandowski annoyed many Borussia Dortmund fans when he completed the move to great rivals Bayern.

The Poland international is a lethal finisher and has already started life in Bavaria well and will be looking to enjoy success under head coach Pep Guardiola.

LF – Luis Suarez

A controversial figure, the past 12 months have shown the good and the bad of Suarez with a PFA Player of the Year award with Liverpool, to a four month ban for biting an opponent at the World Cup.

Despite the Uruguay international’s behaviour Barcelona were still moved to pay a whopping £75m for the 27-year-old.
