Courtesy of the Guardian, here’s the Premier League table by net spend – the amount of money clubs spent on players during the summer transfer window, minus the amount of money they received from player sales.

After United’s sensational player splurge during July and August, that saw them break the British transfer record for Angel di Maria, and bring in one of the world’s best strikers Radamel Falcao on loan, the Red Devils sit way, way out in front of this table.

With figures spent like these, they have little choice but to at least qualify for next season’s Champions League…

Arsenal also spent heavily, bringing in Alexis Sanchez for £35m and Danny Welbeck for £16m, and are second in this list.

Two clubs made profits during the window – Southampton and Tottenham. The Saints sold £50m of players to Liverpool alone, selling the Reds Rickie Lambert, Dejan Lovren and Adam Lallana.

Chelsea also spent heavily, but thanks mainly to the outrageous £50m sale of David Luiz, their net spend was sensible.
